Embracing the Beauty of Custom Work: From Dressmaking to Emotional Transformation

I’ve been playing a lot with Human Design lately, and the thing that has struck me most is how affirming it is to hear that who I am is just great. It’s like discovering that the weird and wonderful casserole of quirks that makes up “Me” doesn’t need a recipe rewrite—it’s already a Michelin star dish. That I don’t need to try to fit into something I’m not because who I am has always been there inside of me. Of course, there’s always room for growth, and I love that process, but at my core?

I’m really okay with being me. I like me.

This renewed sense of self-acceptance got me thinking about how I show up for my clients—and why explaining what I do can feel so tricky. It has reminded me of something I’ve struggled with as a coach: explaining the results of working with me. It’s not because I don’t know the value I bring—I do! But the challenge lies in describing it because, well, it’s custom work.

Let me take you back to many years ago when I was a dressmaker. I created costumes, formal dresses, and wedding gowns. When a customer came in wanting a dress, we’d sit down together, and she’d describe what she wanted, or maybe she’d show me pictures from magazines. From there, I’d sketch a line drawing—not a pretty picture, but a functional diagram showing the basic shape, where the seams would go, and any special design elements. Then I’d take one of the basic patterns I had (I kept a collection in different shapes) and make a mockup to fit her body. That mockup became the specific pattern for her dress.

Here’s the thing: I couldn’t see the final dress in my mind before I talked with the customer— that would be like trying to picture a unicorn without knowing if it had wings, sparkles, or a top hat. All I knew before she walked through the door was that I could create something she’d love—something she’d feel excited to wear. And I would do everything I could to make sure she enjoyed the process.

Working with me now as The Emotions Coach is much the same. Just like each dress had to reflect the person wearing it, every coaching experience I offer is tailored to the individual. It’s still custom work.

I help my clients create an inner landscape that feels better to live in, to build a stronger connection with themselves. Because I understand the structure of emotions, thoughts, and beliefs—and how to shift them—I’m confident that when someone comes to me with something they want to change or work on, I can help. But, just like with dressmaking, I don’t know what the results will be until we’ve spent time together. That’s the nature of custom work.

So, the real question becomes: What do you want to create? A five-star inner life? A cozy self-connection cottage? Or maybe just a solid emotional toolbox that doesn’t rattle every time you

open it?

If what you need isn’t something I can help with, that’s okay. I have an amazing list of referral partners, and I’m happy to connect you with someone who can support you. That’s why I keep the list.

But if what you’re struggling with is in any way about emotions, beliefs about yourself, or your business (and let me tell you, it’s kind of mind-blowing how often it all comes back to those!), then let’s talk. Together, we can create a space inside you where you really enjoy being you. We can craft structures that help you grow into who you’re becoming and clear the hidden beliefs and identities that no longer fit.

Just like I used to tailor gowns to fit each client perfectly, I now help tailor lives to fit the people living them. Because at the end of the day, my work is about helping you be more of you.

That beautiful, laugh-out-loud, kinda-weird, doing-it-now, big-dreaming, purpose-driven YOU.

Let’s create something extraordinary together—like the emotional equivalent of a handmade gown, but with fewer sequins and more breakthroughs.

If this resonates with you and you’re ready to take the next step, I’d love to offer you my free e-book, Girl, Tie Your Shoe Laces. It’s packed with practical insights to help you start your journey toward emotional clarity and self-connection.
